There are many different kinds of birds that inhabit our area of the San Bernardino National Forest. Many water fowl swim at our lakes. There are birds from chickadees to bald eagles and many inbetween. If you like to go birding, then the San Bernardino Mountains have some interesting birds for you to see.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

It is a beautiful day in the SB Mountains. I have been waiting for a nice day for over a month. What should I do. Maybe go for a walk around Lake Gregory. Maybe go into town and go to Toni's Mexican Restaurant or the A Burger. Maybe go visit the shops at Lake Arrowhead and drink coffee while watching boats out on the lake. Many possibilities.

Filming at Lake Gregory

We watched as they filmed an episode of Sole Survivor today at Lake Gregory. The episode will be shown on March 25 on the Discovery Channel. It features a huge explosion. My family heard a big explosion, and they knew it must be from the filming of this episode. So, when I got home from work we drove to the site. We have a film of the big explosion but I wasn't able to upload it onto this blog for some reason. We also saw them shooting a scene with an actor/stuntman surviving what appears to be a plane crash. The man had to pretend he was on fire and was playing the part with his shirt off, and it was pretty cold out. He did a great job acting under difficult conditions. There is always something going on in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Snow

Here in the San Bernardino Mountains we have had a lot of snow this winter. There have been several storms this year dumping large amounts of the white stuff. There are many things to do up here in the snow. You can build a snowman, sled, ski, there are even people who snowshoe and cross country ski.

Where are the Squirrels?

Where are all the Squirrels in the San Bernardino Mountains? Those of us living in the San Bernardino Mountains have been wondering. We loved our squirrels. They lived, ate, and played all around our houses in our oak trees. On some days they would drop acorn remains on your head from above and one would swear they were trying to hit you. But all the same we love these furry little monkeys of North America. However, they are gone for the most part. We don't see any around our house anymore.

One theory of why they are gone is that the West Nile virus killed them. The virus spread from the west to the east and is wiping out the squirrels. It is a sad time for us living in the San Bernardino Mountains.
